The Book Launch That Was
There goes the Book Launch… and what a wonderful event it was. About 70 guests were in attendance and we got in some rather nice wines from the Mediterranean Supermarket in Brunswick especially for the occasion.
I had already prepared a tightly scripted half-hour monologue when it was pointed out to me that this was far far too long for a book launch. So the script was hastily abandoned and guests were instead treated to several minutes of incoherent rambling. Eventually the polite applause stopped coming and everyone’s eyes started to glaze over and I finally got the message and stumbled off the podium.
There ensued a signing frenzy during which I forgot how to spell basic words such as “dear” and “to” and young Felix took it upon himself to countersign as many copies of the book as possible. Finally we all repaired across the road for pizza and wine to celebrate.
It was such a wonderful experience that I’m already planning my next book just so I can do another launch.
